Privacy Policy
This explains what personal data CINEQ Library collects when you sign in, why, and your choices. Data controller: DNV ARC, contact info@dnvarc.com.
1. What we collect
- From Google, when you sign in: your Google account ID, email address, display name and profile-picture URL. We do not receive your Google password and we don’t ask Google for anything else.
- What you create: the films you add, your star ratings, your review text, timestamps, and — for the social features — a CINEQ @username (auto-generated from your name/email, changeable later) and the list of people you follow.
- Technical: a signed session cookie to keep you logged in; your IP address — used to rate-limit abuse and to record the date, time and IP at which you accepted these terms, as a consent record; basic error logs.
The wider cineq.in site also uses Google Analytics — see the site-wide notice in the footer.
2. Why we use it
- To show you your own library and let you edit it.
- To run the social features — a profile, usernames, and showing your activity to people who follow you (with your name and picture, never your email).
- To keep the service secure (rate-limiting, abuse prevention) and to hold a record that you accepted these terms.
We do not sell your data or use it for advertising, and we don’t share it for anyone else’s marketing.
3. What others can see
Any signed-in CINEQ user can find you by name or username and see your display name, @username and profile picture.
People who follow you can additionally see your activity (films you rate, review or log as watched), your recent activity on your profile, and your follower / following lists.
Nobody sees your email address, or the working contents of your library page (its search, filters and any unsaved drafts).
4. Who else processes it
- Google — sign-in.
- Neon — our database host (data stored in the Asia-Pacific / Singapore region).
- Vercel — application hosting.
- TMDB — supplies film data; we send it film titles and IDs only, never your personal data.
These providers process data on our instructions under their own security terms.
5. Retention
We keep your account data until you delete your account. Deleting your account (Account → Delete) removes your user record, your entire library, and your reviews immediately and permanently. Server logs and backups age out within 90 days. A consent record (the terms version and date you accepted) is retained as a legal record; the IP address in that record is removed when you delete your account.
6. Your rights
You can access and correct your data in the app, request an export, and delete everything yourself at any time. For anything else, or to complain, email info@dnvarc.com. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to object to or restrict processing, or to complain to a data-protection authority (in India, under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023).
7. Age
CINEQ Library is not for anyone under 16. We don’t knowingly collect data from children; if we learn we have, we’ll delete it.
8. Security
Data is transmitted over HTTPS. The session cookie is HTTP-only and signed. Sessions end automatically after 15 minutes of inactivity, or 30 days if you chose “keep me signed in”. No system is perfectly secure.
9. International transfers
Your data may be processed outside your country (including Singapore, the EU and the US) by the providers listed above, with appropriate safeguards.
10. Changes
We’ll post any change here with a new version date, and ask you to re-accept if the change is material.
